Shackleton Lodge is the larger of our two dual use main lodges, aside from supporting residentials it can also be booked by community groups for general occasional or regular use, whether it’s a home-ed or parent group, or any other community group, we’d love to hear from you!
It is available for hire all week, all year round, for community groups wishing regular hires we will always agree a value for money fees package, and with free parking and our convenient location we are a great option for local groups, for both the young and not so young!
We are your local community centre, in a glorious woodland setting, what more could you want!
For normal residential use the lodge can if needed (perhaps in the colder months) support a maximum group of 24 young people on the floor in the main hall, there are four side-rooms, one contains 3 bunk beds (sleeping 6), one has 2 single beds (sleeping 2) and the other 2 have a bunk-bed each (sleeping 2 in each room).
For residential stays wholly within the building the maximum party size is therefore 36, this will not be exceeded under any circumstances due to fire safety regulations, but additional numbers camping outside on the glade area are NOT counted within this total, the building with camping on the glade can support groups of 100+
At the rear of the building is a glade camping area, this is an open area that can accommodate a number of tents, when used together with the building this creates a very flexible residential arrangement, with the combination of the building and camping area.
The building is equipped with tables and chairs, and is heated by wall mounted infrared and electric fan heaters, with underfloor heating in the toilet and wetroom (no extra charge).
The kitchen is equipped with a fully certificated commercial electric cooker, with a full extraction system.
A full range of cooking equipment is provided, such as pots, pans, plates, mugs and utensils, sufficient to support 50 people, extra can be supplied upon request for larger events.
The kitchen is also equipped with a large fridge, large freezer and microwave.
Free Wifi is available within and around all of the buildings at Bushy Wood
